The Hotels and Accommodations

The hotels for this trip are 2 and 3 star hotels. Over the years I have been able to find "mom and pop" hotels that will provide comfortable rooms and a local country feel particular to the region of the Pyrenees. Each hotel is different, as these are not chain hotels, but family fun facilities, often with their own restaurants.

Quillan, hotel la Chaumiere, end of a long day's ride.

A typical scene at the end of the ride, enjoying some refreshements (cold beer is my preference) and food out on the front steps of the hotel in Quillan. Another epic long day on the bike.  Today we left the Mediterranean to make our way into the high mountains.

Brian, client from 2013, describes it as such, "Just did it this year. Was a life changer. It's not a fancy trip with massage therapists and swannies. Just incredible riding and comfortable lodging. Alan, who is now a good friend is French, and knows the back roads very well. I can't recall riding on any primary road with tons of traffic. All beautiful small town back country roads. The lodging was perfect for what we needed. Nice clean but not fancy. However the home cooked meals were incredible. One at a small hotel owned by a Cordon Bleu Trained chef. Wow! The climbs are epic. Not Sonoma County Epic but TDF epic. Brings a whole new meaning to the word. I would highly recommend the trip."

A bird's eye view of the town of Mirepoix, French Pyrenees

The town of MIrepoix in the central Pyrenees called Ariege. This is our destination for stage 3, rich in medieval history and architecture. In the background is the direction from which we just came.
