Ride Across the Pyrenees

Atlantic to Mediterrean and back

1000 mi. -  100,000 ft. -  12 stages

The Daily Itinerary

All of the days for the cycling tour will follow this routine (except for the 2 rest days).

approaching the Gorges de Galamus, Cubieres

Stage 4 is the longest ride on the tour,  130 miles.  The destination is the Mediterranean coastal village called Collioure.   In this photo we are about half there and into the Catalan region of the Pyrenees.  This is an entirely different landscape from the Basque region on the western end of the Pyrenees.

  • Breakfast at 7:00 or 7:30 depending on the hotel.
  • Start of the ride 9:00.
  • Depending on the length of the ride, we should arrive at the following hotel between 4 and 5 pm.
  • Lunch consists of food carried by the van.
  • Dinner is at 7:30 pm, either at the hotel restaurant or another restaurant.
switchbacks at the base of the col du Porte de Pailheres

The beginning of the col du Porte de Pailheres.  Even though I have ridden up this climb a dozen times I still have not found the right rhythm and pace to finish strong.  It is a long and hard climb.  Maybe you will have more luck?

The two rest days, which are days 5 and 10 of the trip, you will follow your own itinerary and do what you want. Your lunch and dinner on these two days will be your own responsibility.

cycling and summiting the col du chioula, Pyrenees

The great part about this climb is it's lunch time at the top! Two of the riders a quarter mile from the top cold du Chioula.
